Tuesday 18th April - walk **** Orwell Country Park near Ipswich - mainly cloudy, chilly too.

Woke to a good breeze from the chilly NE but the germs for both of us continue with mine now on my chest so thought it wise to give windsurfing a miss again today:( Had a little sun to start but it soon clouded over, managed my exercises again as it clouded over, even threatening rain. With no sailing I packed a picnic and decided to drive the ten miles to Orwell Country Park near Ipswich to see if the bluebells are out. Arriving just before midday we ambled through the lovely bluebell wood, as pretty as ever with a few blooms and the tall tree were swaying in the breeze. Then down to the River Orwell where the tide was once again very high, only having just turned but there was enough to walk along the beach. With the breeze cross off it was sheltered and when the sun made brief appearances it felt quite mild and found a nice spot opposite Stoke Sailing Club for lunch. We had a lovely picnic, peaceful too with just the odd dog walker passing. Not much boat action on the Orwell, just a couple of yachts but there was a great selection of wild flowers coming into bloom now:) Well rested we continue up past the small holding with the usual selection of birds and animals, under the huge Orwell Bridge and up the path by the noisy A 14 and back to the van. We take the scenic route back through Nacton and Levington, stopping in Trimley to pay a local paper as I have a pic in today, oddly enough one of the Orwell Bridge:) Then home for a cuppa and cake after a small detour to check out the sailing conditions at The Dip, it did look OK especially with the tide dropping but no one was out kiting or windsurfing:(

PS - got one of todays pics on ITV's About Anglia, just love Chris Page:)
